Milla collects puddle-water for the tomatoes.
Professor McCormick found aphids on her peas the other day, and when I went to check my own, sure enough, the little brown fuzz that can only be aphid eggs was present on the underside of a few tomatoes. Possible solutions thrown around:
- Ladybugs, which Laurie has purchased
- Crushed egg shells, which Sister Madeline reccommends as a way to strengthen our soil, apart from any infestations of hungry insects
- Castille soap, which some elderly gentlemen mentioned in a hushed whisper to me months ago and the way in which he said it sounded like the beginning of a good Southern novel
Apart from the aphids, I also made another unfortunate discovery hiding among the weeds in our community garden plot. Fortunately, Carol Brooks was nearby and she immediately identified the piece of fuzz as caterpillar eggs.
